Carmel resident Dheepa Maturi announced today the launch of her new business Chai, Baby!, featuring distinctive gourmet tea blends and tea-related gift items such as tea sets and tea candles.
The business was launched in response to the growing interest in tea nationwide. Total tea sales in the U.S. increased from $1.84 billion in 1990 to a $6.5 billion in 2006, according to the Tea Association of the USA. Much of this demand results from the growing awareness of tea’s potential health benefits. Tea is rich in antioxidants, chemicals linked to preventing cell damage and disease.
