Carmel Becoming True Edge City

In his book, Edge Cities, Joel Garreau introduces the trend of Suburban Centers making the transition from bedroom community to true city. Although not on his original list of 123 cities, Carmel has clearly embraced this model for growth, with expanded downtown, mixed residential and retail, and an expanded art and design district.

The latest evidence of this change is their expansion of the pubic art sculptures by J. Seward Johnson.

Carmel Arts & Design District Merchants Sponsor “Charity Trees” with Opportunities to Give Back

Carmel, IN – During this holiday season, many merchants in the Carmel Arts & Design District (CA&DD) have “charity trees” present at their stores or businesses. Participating merchants paired up with a charity of their choice and created ways in which customers and community members can give or donate to their chosen charity. The charity trees (four-foot, decoratively lit, artificial evergreen trees) are located either outside or inside participating merchant stores and are decorated with tags or other special items outlining the specifics on how to give back to the chosen charity at each location.

Tea Trend comes to Indiana : Consumer demand increases for healthy and chic specialty teas

Carmel resident Dheepa Maturi announced today the launch of her new business Chai, Baby!, featuring distinctive gourmet tea blends and tea-related gift items such as tea sets and tea candles.

The business was launched in response to the growing interest in tea nationwide. Total tea sales in the U.S. increased from $1.84 billion in 1990 to a $6.5 billion in 2006, according to the Tea Association of the USA.
